ABSTRACT

Hamedi S., Age related changes in histology of the Bursa of Fabricius in Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica), Onl J Vet Res., 18(6): 468-471, 2014. Tissue changes in the bursa of Fabricius in quails during pre-puberty and puberty are described. Groups of 10 quails each were slaughtered at 10, 20, 30 (pre-puberty) and 40 (puberty) days. Histological sections from bursae were prepared and stained with H&E.  Plicae were higher at puberty and the width of follicles and follicular medulla and cortex increased with age. However, the number of follicles per plicae remained constant in 10 and 20 day birds and only showed an increase in 30 and 40 day specimens. The findings suggest that immune structures in the bursa develop at puberty.
