ABSTRACT

A Basoglu, M Sevinc, H Guzelbektas, T Civelek., Effect of borax on serum lipid profile in dogs. Onl J Vet Res 4: 58-61, 2000. The serum lipid profile in 10 dogs fed non-toxic oral doses of borax (4 grams) mixed with food daily for 30 days was evaluated. Serum glucose, insulin and apolipoprotein-B levels decreased from week 1, very low density protein and trigliceride from week 2, and apolipoprotein A concentrations at weeks 2 and 4. High density lipoprotein concentrations increased from week 3. The results suggest that ingestion of non-toxic doses of borax reduces serum lipids in dogs.
