Burriel AR, Bisias G,
Butsini S, Kontos V,. Detection of Brucella melitensis
by indirect and competitive ELISA, Onl J Vet Res., 30 (2):
73-77, 2026. We tested 277 cattle, 516 pigs, 264 sheep, 292 goats and 287
dog’s sera for brucella melitensis with
or without reproduction problems by competitive and indirect ELISA. With both
tests, all bovine and 2 dogs were negative to competitive ELISA. Nine suspects reacted
to B canis
and melitensis agglutination tests. Fourteen pigs had doubtful
results but one was positive by competitive ELISA. However, we found B melitensis antibody by competitive ELISA in 2.3% sheep
and 9.4% by indirect test but 39.4 and 26% in abortive ones, respectively. Similarly
in goats, 11.3 and 19.5% tested positive and 85% sheep and 59% goats. Of 779 samples
95 were positive by indirect and 60 with competitive ELISA with 58% of 95 positive
by both methods.
