ABSTRACT

Kumar R, Kaura R, Kaura S, Sethi P, Srikala R., Sequence characterization and phylogenetic analysis of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase gene in Bubalus bubalis, Onl J Vet Res., 10 (2) : 116 -120, 2006. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD has a crucial role in fatty acid biosynthesis and detoxification of organic peroxides. It also indirectly governs the de novo synthesis of nucleotides by influencing the production of ribose-5-phosphate through the hexose monophosphate pathway. In this study, a 683 bp fragment of buffalo G6PD gene was amplified, sequenced and characterized. The deduced amino acid sequence clustered the Bubalus bubalis G6PD sequence with the other mammalian G6PD proteins into a monophyletic group. The multiple sequence alignment of Bubalus bubalis G6PD with the mammalian species clearly revealed conservation of the substrate and dimer binding sites with the solved X-ray crystallographic model structure of Homo sapiens.
