ABSTRACT

Shahbazia Y, Hashemniab M, Afshari Safavic EA., A retrospective survey of poultry carcass condemnations in abattoirs., Onl J Vet Res., 18(10): 837-844,  2014. A retrospective study was carried out from 2009 to 2012 to investigate poultry losses due to pathological and slaughter-related causes. During the study period, 15,432,099 poultry were slaughtered and 72,591 (0.47%) poultry carcasses were condemned. Sixty five percent of rejections were due to cachexia, bruises and ascites/peritonitis. Cachexia was the main reason (25.74%) for poultry carcass condemnation. There were significantly higher condemnation rates during winter and spring due to disease and slaughter-related causes.
