Ultrastructure of vascular endothelium of premalignant and malignant cervix lesions in patients infected by human papilloma virus.

Onl J Vet Res., 17 (6): 329-338, 2013.  Ultrastructure of vascular endothelium of premalignant and malignant lesions of the uterine cervix in patients infected by human papilloma virus (HPV) is described.  PCR was performed to detect HPV. A NIC I sample with HPV type 6 infection showed a capillary with a reduplicated basement membrane and widened endothelial cell cytoplasm. A uterine NIC II sample infected with HPV type 16 revealed a mastocyte and abundant collagen fibers. A NIC III sample with infection by HPV type 16 showed capillary basement duplication with endothelial and pericyte cytoplasms which appeared widened. In another pericyte there was a pinocytotic vesicle. In a sample of invasive cervix cancer with HPV type 16, a widened endothelial cell cytoplasm showed prolongations into the lumen with the presence of primary lysosomes and pinocytotic vesicles. HPV11 was identified and both endothelial cytoplasm prolongations into the lumen and thickening of the endothelial wall were evident. The findings suggested that changes in microvascular tissue in premalignant lesions with thickening of the endothelial capillary walls in malignant lesions indicate activation of angiogenesis.
