Inflammatory cytokines in vaccinated Cobb broilers challenged with Newcastle Disease Virus

Afsar M, Nazifi S,  Dadras H, Ansari-Lari M, Taebipour MJ., Inflammatory cytokines in vaccinated Cobb broilers challenged with Newcastle Disease Virus, Onl J Vet Res.,  21(8):511-516, 2017.  Values for inflammatory serum cytokines IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 in vaccinated broilers experimentally challenged with Newcastle disease virus (NDV) are described. Groups of 75, 20d old Cobb broilers were vaccinated live B1 Hitchner, killed or adjuvanted Newcastle vaccines. At 27d, chicks were challenged with velogenic NDV JF820294.1 propagated in 10d embryonated chicken eggs. Controls were not challenged. Increases in cytokines were observed in all groups except controls suggesting inflammation following challenge with NDV. Higher level of cytokines occurred in chicks vaccinated live virus suggesting that it may induce less inflammation than killed or adjuvanted vaccine. NDV induced less inflammation in presence of a NDV vaccine with virus.
