Effects of diminazine on alamycin and creatinine clearance in goats

ABSTRACT

The effect of diminazine on serum and urine clearance of long acting alamycin, creatinine and creatine kinase in groups of 5 lactating goats each was determined. One group was injected 30mg/kg alamycin IM. Another group was injected 3.5 mg/kg diminazene aceturate IM 2 hours before  30mg/kg alamycin IM. To determine clearance, the same goats were injected a bolus of alamycin IV after a washout period. Alamycin  persisted in urine samples up to 96 hours with therapeutic effect over MIC,  of Cmax 1.23 ± 0.062 at 24h and 1.24± 0.079 µg/ml at 8h after IM injection, whereas  1 hr after IV bolus,  reached 1.46 ± 0.012 in controls and 1.5 ± 0.033 µg/ml in goats given diminazine. Serum and urine creatinine concentration and cumulative endogenous creatinine and OTC clearance were higher in goats given diminazine (P < 0.01 to P < 0. 0001).   Higher Cmax, shorter Tmax and higher AUC of serum CK activity was found in goats given diminazine.
