J Vet Res., 29 (8): 465-476, 2025.
This study was conducted to isolate, characterize and test antibiotic
susceptibility of bacteria and fungi from 60 normal canine ear canals. Bacteria
were isolated from 62 (52%) and fungi from 19 (16%) ear canals. Staphylococci 36 (59%), Bacillus spp. 19 (31%), streptococci
7 (11%), Scopulariopsis
spp. 4 (21%), Aspergillus spp.
2 (11%), Cladosporium spp. 2 (11%), Alternaria spp. 1 (5%), penicillium
spp. 1 (5%), and yeasts 9 (47%) were also found. Susceptibility testing suggested
tylosin was most inhibitory and bacitracin least.
