ABSTRACT

Gholipour Kanani HG, Nazerian S,  Jafariana H,  Soltanic M., Effect of Echinacea purpurea extract on  immune markers and hematology in sturgeon (Huso huso) fish. Onl J Vet Res., 17 (11):632-641, 2013. Immuno-stimulants are used to increase non-specific defense mechanisms and tolerance against disease in fish. Forty five Huso huso with an average weight of 1.15±0.02 kg obtained from culturing were injected IP with 400 mg/kg bw Echinacea purpurea extract. Blood was taken at 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days post injection and results were compared with untreated controls. WBC, RBC and Lysozyme activity increased at 12 days PI, ACH50, Hb and MCHC at day 3, MCV and MCH at day 6 and HCT at day 9 PI. Echinacea extract may affect some innate immune and hematological parameters in great sturgeon fish.

Key words: Immunostimulant, Innate immunity, Echinacea purpurea, Huso huso
