ABSTRACT

Raghu TK,  Nagaraja TR, Kumar APc, Mishra SC, Mortality and antibodies to bursal disease in fowl by oil, vitamin A and E vaccines. Onl J Vet Res.,  30 (2): 66-72, 2026. Groups of 2 week old chicks were vaccinated subcutaneously with oil, vitamin A and vitamin E adjuvanted live infectious bursal disease (IBD) vaccines. IBD live-in-oil vaccine, vitamin A and E adjuvanted IBD live-in-oil vaccine and IBD live vaccine adjuvanted with vitamin A and E (injected adjacent to live vaccine) Of groups of 10 chicks challenged with the disease, those given only IBD vaccine we found 5/10 dead chicks by 10 days, with IBD and oil none, IBD and vitamin A 3 dead, IBD vitamin A and oil 5 died whereas no controls died. However, IBD with Vitamin E none died and IBD vitamin E with oil 1 death. Ten days after challenge, comparing antibody titres with controls, we found IBD vaccine boosted antibody 3.4 fold, IBD with oil 3.6 times, IBD vitamin A 3.7 fold with IBD with oil 4 fold, vitamin E 3.65 times, IBD with oil 3.8 fold and controls 23 fold by 10 days.
