ABSTRACT

Javdan E, Fayazi J,  Baigi Nasiri MT, Vakili ST., Polymorphism of GDF9 gene and its association with litter size in goats, Onl J Vet Res., 26 (4): 280-288, 2022. We report association of differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) gene with litter size in goats. The polymorphism of exon 2 of GDF9 gene was detected by PCR-SSCP in two goat breeds with different prolificacy. 121 genomic DNA samples were taken from Najdi and Lori-Bakhtiari goats. After extraction 295 bp fragment of exon 2 of GDF9 gene was amplified by PCR with specific primers and assayed by single stranded conformation polymorphism. Frequencies of genotypes AA, AB and BB were 0.37, 0.423 and 0.207 in Najdi goats and 0.586, 0.173 and 0.241 in Lori-Bakhtiari breeds, respectively. Heterozygosity in Najdi goats was 0.424 and 0.172 in Lori-Bakhtiari.
