ABSTRACT

Bantu N., Effect of profenofos on Na+- K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ATPase of Indian carp Labeo  rohita (Hamilton), Onl J Vet Res., 20(9):607-616, 2016. Groups of 10 fish in 15L test water were exposed to lethal and sub lethal concentrations of profenofos for 24, 48, 72, 96h and 1, 4, 8 and 16 days. Experiments were conducted in triplicates for each concentration of pesticide. Na+- K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ATPase activities were determined in gill, liver, kidney and muscle of fish. Results showed a decline in Mg2+, Na+ - K+ and Ca2+ ATPases in gill, muscle, kidney and liver in all exposed fish compared with non-treated controls. With lethal concentrations the decline in Na+ - K+ and Ca2+ and Na+ - K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ATPases suggested severe disruption of cellular ionic regulation.

Key Words: Profenofos, Carp, Tissue, Enzymes.
