ABSTRACT

Nazifi S, Mosleh N, Alaeddini A, Eskandarzadeh N, Basaki M., Effect of ulcerative enteritis on acute phase proteins in quails, Onl J Vet Res., (3): 139-148, 2026. We report serum acute phase haptoglobin, amyloid A protein and inflammatory mediators tumor necrosis factor-alpha, gamma interferon, total lipid and protein bound sialic acid in 25 three week old quails (Coturnix coturnix) 22 with ulcerative enteritis. Compared with 13 non-infected controls birds, serum haptoglobin increased (P  < 0.001) 45%, amyloid 58, total sialic acid 89,  protein bound 90; LBSA: lipid bound 89, umor necrosis factor alpha 60% and gamma interferon 68% TNF-α: tumor necrosis factor-alpha; INF-γ: gamma interferon. Findings suggest acute phase proteins and inflammatory mediator concentrations were higher in diseased birds withl sialic acid most sensitive.

Keywords: Ulcerative enteritis, acute phase proteins, quails.
