ABSTRACT

Rezaei M, Sabzevari S, Nourollahi Fard SR, Saberi M., Myiasis (Lucilia sericata) in a desert hedgehog (Hemichinus aethiopicus), Onl J Vet Res., 18(11): 900-904,  2014.  We report a case of myiasis in a desert hedgehog (Hemichinus aethiopicus) with numerous live maggots in a foot wound. The animal was admitted due to lethargy, weakness and anorexia. Larvae instars taken from the wound were cleared and fixed. Morphological studies revealed that the larvae were Lucilia sericata  from the Calliphoridae genus. To authors knowledge this is a first report of such a finding in a hedgehog.
