ABSTRACT

Hamedi S, Shomali T,  Validad Y, Farzaneh M., Effect of dietary Nigella sativa seeds on the small intestinal mucosa of broiler chickens, Onl J Vet Res., 18(2):116-123, 2014. Histology of intestinal mucosa of broilers fed dietary N. sativa seed in diet is described.  Groups of ten 51d old chickens each were fed 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% of N. sativa seeds (experimental groups) or basal diet (controls) for 45 days. Samples of mid duodenum, jejunum and ileum were subjected to routine histological laboratory methods. An increase was observed in villus height/crypt depth ratio in duodenum, jejunum and ileum in N sativa fed broilers compared with controls.

Key words: Nigella sativa seed; intestinal mucosa; histomorphometry; broilers
