avian erythrocytes, Onl J Vet Res, 30 (1): 18-23, 2026. We describe hemagglutination
of HPAI H5N1 to mammalian and avian erythrocytes. Fifteen virus isolates from erythrocytes
of human, dog, chicken, turkey, quail, geese and duck agglutinated all isolates
whereas cow and horse agglutinated 14 isolates. However, none agglutinated pig
erythrocytes. We find that pig erythrocytes have poor or no affinity for HPAI possibly
due to low expression or lack of receptors.
KEYWORDS: Avian H5N1 virus, hemagglutination,
erythrocytes, mammalian, avian.
