ABSTRACT

Ahadian M, Saadatfar Z, Ghodrati H., Macro and micro structural and enzyme changes in embryonic liver of ostriches (Struthio camelus), Onl J Vet Res., 20(5):279-295, 2016. Changes in  gross anatomy, histology and enzymatic activity in 24 incubated eggs of ostriches at day 10, 13, 16, 22, 26, 30 and 36, and 1st day after hatching, are described. On day 10 of incubation, livers appeared small yellow buds adjacent to heart with hepatocytes in cord and acini with sinusoidal endothelial and kupffer cells. Reticular and collagen fibers appeared on day 10 and at day 13, left and right lobes became apparent and day 16 liver was  completed with organized hepatic  cords and even  glycogen inclusions. By day 26 lipid droplets appeared in hepatocytes and day 36 or 1st day after hatching, hepatocytes were vacuolated. Lactate dehydrogenase decreased after day 22, ALT increased after day 16 and the ALP between day 22 and 36. Conclusions are supported with micro and macro anatomy imaging.
