ABSTRACT

Hashemnia M, Asadi J,  Farjani Kish G,  Javdani M., A rare case of Schistosomus reflexus in a goat, Onl J Vet Res., 17 (12):685-690, 2013. Schistosoma reflexus (SR) is a rare and fatal congenital disorder. Primarily observed in ruminants, its defining features include spinal inversion, exposure of the abdominal viscera because of a fissure of the ventral abdominal wall, limb ankylosis, positioning of limbs adjacent to skull and lung hypoplasia. The present study was aimed at the definition of a case of SR observed for the first time in a goat, based on anatomical and histopathological findings. This case of SR had multiple congenital anomalies. In fact, all organs and systems displayed an irregular orientation, with the exception of the head and neck. Microscopic examination revealed necrotic and degenerative lesions in the brain, liver, kidneys and lungs. The lesions were not found in the other organs.
