ABSTRACT

Dadpasand M, Golestani N, Moghiseh A, Kafi M, Rowshan H., Risk factors associated with repeat breeder syndrome in Holstein cows, Onl J Vet Res., Volume 19(12): 776-784, 2015. Calving, insemination and parturition data was used to determine links with repeat breeding syndrome in 11,249 Holstein dairy cows. Repeat breeders (42%) were defined as those requiring 3 or more inseminations to conceive. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine risk factors associated with repeat breeding. Mean number of services per conception ranged 1.95 to 3.25 in normal cows and 1.54 to 3.95 in repeat breeders. Herd, milk yield, season of calving, time of 1st insemination, dystocia, stillbirth, abortion and days from calving to 1st service were associated risk factors. Average repeat breeding was greater in cows that had had dystocia, stillbirth, higher milk production and previous repeat breeders. In contrast, retention of placenta, sex of calf or length of dry period was not associated significantly with the syndrome..
