ABSTRACT

Rajaian  H, Nazifi  S , Aberumandi  M,  Jalaei J, LD50 of salinomycin in laying and broiler chickens with or without oral phenobarbital and chloramphenicol, Online J Vet Res, 13 (1) :26-31, 2009. The LD50 of salinomycin with or without oral phenobarbital and chloramphenicol was determined in laying and broiler hens. The LD50 of salinomycin in broiler chickens and laying hens was 108 and 104 mg/kg body weight, respectively. Mortality decreased about 9% in layers given chloramphenicol or phenobarbital, 15% in broilers given chloramphenicol but 32% in broiler hens given phenobarbital. There were no significant changes in biochemical parameters due to salinomycin in any group. The LD50 of salinomycin in this study was similar to those reported previously.  Lower mortality due to phenobarbital in broiler chickens given an LD50 dose of salinomycin may have been due to induction by phenobarbital on liver microsomal enzymes.
