of Stevia rebaudiana extract on wound healing in Sprague-Dawley male rats, Onl
J Vet Res., 21(10):676-680, 2017.
Effects of an ethanolic
extract of Stevia rebaudiana (SR) on
wound healing markers in male rats is described. Full-thickness
2X2 cm excisional wounds were induced on the back of 24 euthanized rats. After wounding, groups of 6 rats each were treated
daily for 10 days with 1ml Eucerin, 1ml Eucerin 3% tetracycline or 1ml SR ethanolic
extract 10% suspended in 90g Eucerin. Controls were wounded
but not treated. Rodents were euthanized 10 days post-injury (DPI) and wounds assessed grossly and microscopically for
alignment of healing tissue, re-epithelilization, and
blood elements. Findings suggested that Stevia
may affect wound healing in rats.
Keywords: Stevia rebaudiana; ethanolic extract; wound healing;
