ABSTRACT
Javdani M, Ziaei N., Associations between age and
dental pathology in dogs. Onl J Vet Res., 30 (10):
644-649, 2026. We report dental
pathology in 21 - 3 to 6 month old, 30 - 6 to 12 month, 44 - 12 to 24 month and
20 - 24 to 60 month old dogs. We found 27% plaque, 33% periodontal
disease and 19% malocclusion but no cavities or fractures in 3 to 6 month old puppies.
In those aged 12-24 months we observed ~54% plaque, 61% periodontal disease, 13.6%
malocclusion, ~11 cavities
and ~9.1% fractures. In old dogs of 24-60 months we found 75%
plaque, 61% periodontal and 80% periodontal disease, 15% malocclusion, 70%
cavities and 25% fractures. Compared with younger dogs oldest ones had ~60-70%
more plaque, periodontal disease or cavities (P < 0.05)
Key words: pet dog, dental problems, periodontal disease, dental plaques, dental
fractures.
