ABSTRACT

Nikahval B, Mogheiseh A., True vaginal prolapse in a bitch; an unusual case, Onl J Vet Res., 18(8): 646-650, 2014. While prolapse of vaginal mucosa from the vulva as vaginal hyperplasia in the pro-estrus and estrus phases is frequently encountered, complete vaginal prolapse is a rare condition. This case report describes an 8-year-old large breed bitch referred with complete vaginal prolapse. The prolapse was recurrent during previous months but became persistent in the last few days. The case was first managed medically, but after recurrence ovariohysterectomy and vaginopexy were performed. Mild pyometra was found in the uterus and incision of the removed uterus revealed dried pine leaves as foreign bodies. The primary cause remained unclear (vaginal prolapse or pyometra).
