ABSTRACT

Sethi RJ, Support vector machines and bioinformatics, Online J Bioinformatics, 6 : 22-33, 2005. The inter-disciplinary nature of Bioinformatics prevents the rapid efficient dissemination of new information. Thus, new paradigms and technologies may be confined to a few professionals. Support Vector Machines uniquely exemplify this idea as they are mathematically involved, the algorithms to implement them are labyrinthine, and their applications are in highly complex areas of biology. This work attempts to provide a multi-disciplinary introduction to Support Vector Machines and their application to bioinformatics.

Keywords: support vector machines, bioinformatics.
