ABSTRACT

Ghasemkhani N, Azari O, Kheirandish R., Effects of Zataria multiflora boiss on experimental intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in male Wistar rats, Onl J Vet Res., 17 (12): 638-644, 2013. The effects of Zataria multiflora boiss (ZM) oral extract on intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in Male Wistar rats is described.  Rats were gavaged ZM 1 week before 45m ischemia followed by 1h reperfusion (I/R) treatment. Groups of 5 rats each were gavaged with 1 ml ZM 200ppm +I/R and 1 ml ZM 400ppm +I/R. Controls were either gavaged 1 ml saline with I/R or gavaged 1ml saline without I/R. At autopsy jejunum tissue was excised and examined microscopically. I/R controls showed severe mucosal damage whereas those given ZM appeared to have less or no damage.
